President Donald Trump says “great news” after Trump’s Trump Tower’s construction has begun.
Trump said during an interview with Fox News that construction on the tower is “going very, very well.”
Trump said the tower’s “signature” will be a “new and very high-rise tower” that will have a total of 4,200 apartments, which is roughly equivalent to New York City’s 5,000-unit condo tower at 666 Fifth Avenue.
“We’re going to build a high-end, luxury tower,” Trump said.
“I think it’s going to be a great tower.”
Trump’s comments were the latest sign of his popularity with the Republican base of voters, who he’s been courting with his promises to build “a wall” and slash taxes.
The president, who is also planning to visit Puerto Rico, said that his administration has been “working very closely” with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, on building the tower, which will be in the city’s financial district.
“Our administration is working very closely with FEMA and FEMA is in charge of the financing,” Trump told Fox News.
“I want to see great things happen.”
The president’s approval ratings have slipped, from a 50% approval rating in January to 40% approval in February.
Trump is scheduled to visit the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico on Saturday, when he will meet with a group of business leaders.
